Freshfields advises Applied Systems on its strategic acquisition of Cytora

Sep 16 2025

Global law firm Freshfields has advised Applied Systems, a Hellman & Friedman portfolio company and leading global provider of cloud-based software to the insurance industry, on its strategic acquisition of Cytora Limited (“Cytora”), a leading AI-enabled digital risk processing platform specifically built for the insurance industry.

The acquisition of Cytora accelerates Applied’s vision of delivering the Next Generation of the Digital Roundtrip of Insurance, and broadens Cytora’s ability to provide its platform to insurers, brokers and reinsurers.

The cross-practice Freshfields team was led by private capital partner Tim Wilmot, senior associate Alex Ryan, and associates Jack McIntosh, Herman Ahmad, Karl Victory and Hazel Ferguson. Partner Holly Insley, senior associate Lucy Carruthers and associate Katie Hall advised on employment and incentive matters, and partner Jill Gatehouse, senior associate David Haughey and associate Samuel Gerrard advised on tax aspects.
