Freshfields advises McGill and Partners and its majority shareholder, Warburg Pincus, on the sale of Warburg Pincus’ stake in McGill and Partners to EQT
Global law firm Freshfields is advising McGill and Partners and its majority shareholder, Warburg Pincus, on the sale of Warburg Pincus’ stake in McGill and Partners, a leading specialty (re)insurance broker, to EQT, valuing McGill and Partners at USD 2.0bn. McGill and Partners founders, management team and colleagues will re-invest alongside EQT, retaining a meaningful ownership stake in the firm, whilst Warburg Pincus will sell its equity stake in full.
The transaction represents a significant milestone in the McGill and Partners’ journey and reflects the significant organic growth the firm has achieved. In the seven years since its formation in 2019, the founder-led firm has grown from an ambitious challenger into a scaled global specialty broking business, with revenues in excess of USD 250m.
The Freshfields cross-practice team is being led by private equity partner Patrick Ko and senior associate Alex Collins, with partner Alastair Mordaunt advising on antitrust matters, partner Peter Clements advising on tax matters, and partner James Smethurst advising on financial services regulatory matters.
