Freshfields advised gategroup on strategic expansion into the Baltic region
Global law firm Freshfields advised gategroup, the global leader in airline catering, on its acquisition of 100% of LSG’s activities in Latvia and Estonia from Aurelius. This transaction expands gategroup’s operational Nordics network into the Baltic region.
Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, gategroup serves millions of passengers through a network of nearly 300 locations in more than 68 countries and is the global leader in airline catering, retail-on-board, and hospitality products and services.
This transaction adds well-established operations at Riga and Tallinn airports to gategroup’s global network and strengthens its ability to serve airline customers across the region with both complementary catering and retail-on-board offerings.
Freshfields advised on the M&A, tax and antitrust aspects of the transaction.
The Freshfields M&A team was led by Partner Julia Sellmann and Associate Jens-Ole Steiner (both Corporate/M&A, Hamburg). The team further comprised Partner Alexander Schwahn, Counsel Björn Junior (both Tax, Hamburg), Partner Peter Niggemann (Düsseldorf) and Counsel Mathilde Beaumunier (Berlin, both Antitrust).
The Freshfields team regularly advises gategroup, including on the strategic partnership with KLM for the future of KLM Catering Services.
