Global law firm Freshfields has advised long-standing FTSE 100 client SSE plc (SSE), one of Europe’s largest electricity infrastructure companies, on its successful equity placing to institutional investors, concurrently with a retail offer and director subscription, to raise total gross proceeds of approximately £2bn.
The proceeds of the equity raise will be used as part of the overall funding of SSE’s transformational £33bn five-year investment plan to 2029/30, positioning it as one of the fastest growing electricity networks in the world and more than trebling the size of the regulated asset base.
The Freshfields team, led by senior associate Egor Marisin alongside partners Julian Pritchard and Nick Jones, included senior associate Katie Bentel and associates Alexander Shoferpoor, Caitlin Turner and Lea Mansouri.
