2026 ABA Banking Law Committee Meeting: Bank Examination Reform and Trends in 2026

Freshfields partner Alison Hashmall will be moderating the “Bank Examination Reform and Trends in 2026” panel at the 2026 ABA Banking Law Committee Meeting on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 9:30 AM EST.

Other speakers on this panel include:

  • Julie Williams, Executive Vice President, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago

The Bank Examination Reform and Trends in 2026 panel will examine how federal banking regulators have recalibrated their supervisory and enforcement priorities since the start of the second Trump administration. The discussion will focus on the shift toward prioritizing material financial risks, reducing emphasis on subjective factors, and eliminating reputation risk considerations.

Panelists will explore recent guidance and proposed rules impacting examination approaches, enforcement priorities, and supervisory models, including finalized changes to the Large Financial Institution (LFI) rating system and potential updates to the CAMELS framework. The session will also address implications for confidential supervisory information (CSI) and provide insights on how the industry can adapt and prepare for evolving examination practices in 2026.
