Sophie Winter

Sophie is an associate in Freshfields' Dispute Resolution practice in London, with a broad practice covering contentious and regulatory matters.

Sophie supports multi-jurisdictional internal investigations and has experience advising on contentious dealings with UK enforcement authorities, including the Serious Fraud Office.

Her practice extends to complex litigation, including managing large-scale disclosure and the end-to-end witness evidence process, trial preparation, closing submissions, and advising on ancillary risk that arises alongside large-scale contentious matters. 

She also advises corporates - in particular, listed companies and professional services firms - on financial crime risk, including bribery, corruption, fraud and sanctions exposure, and on designing and strengthening anti-bribery, anti-fraud and compliance frameworks. This includes advising several clients on compliance with the new "failure to prevent fraud" offence under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023.

Sophie's recent experience includes:

• acting for a UK-listed company in the defence of a multi-billion pound equal pay claim;
• conducting a multi-jurisdictional internal investigation for a global professional services firm arising from an internal whistleblowing complaint, coordinating specialists across practice groups and several jurisdictions;
• advising global financial services and analytics clients on their anti-fraud, anti-bribery and corruption compliance frameworks;
• advising several corporates, including a FTSE-listed information and analytics company, on compliance with the "failure to prevent fraud" offence under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023;
