Sofia Svinkovskaya is a Principal Associate in the firm's International Arbitration Group and Global Projects Disputes Practice.
Sofia specializes in international commercial and investment treaty arbitration. Her experience includes disputes involving investment protection under bilateral investment treaties, private equity and finance transactions, as well as construction and engineering, infrastructure, energy, life sciences, gaming, telecommunications, and international sale of goods.
Prior to joining Freshfields, Sofia practiced in the arbitration team of a leading Austrian disputes boutique and externed at the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) in Washington, D.C.
Sofia is admitted to practice in Austria and New York. She is fluent in English, German, Russian, Slovak, Ukrainian, and Czech. She regularly speaks at international arbitration conferences and contributes publications on arbitration-related topics.
Sofia is recognized by Lexology Index (formerly Who's Who Legal) as a Future Leader in Arbitration and a Future Leader in Construction.

- Subsidiaries of a sovereign wealth fund in ICC arbitrations seated in Switzerland arising from breaches of financing agreements.
- An investment vehicle of a sovereign wealth fund in an LCIA arbitration concerning the enforcement of contractual exit rights in connection with an equity investment.
- A leading European biotechnology company in an ICC arbitration concerning the supply of high-technology equipment.
- A Middle Eastern joint venture subcontractor in ICC arbitration proceedings seated in Switzerland concerning significant payment disputes and delay and disruption claims arising from works at a major oil and gas facility in the UAE.
- A multinational telecommunications group in an ICC arbitration concerning claims arising from the sale of a fixed network provider.
- An Austrian transportation company in a multifaceted international dispute against a Central European State before the European Court of Human Rights.
