Alexander Monro is an English barrister and German Rechtsanwalt, working as Counsel in our dispute resolution practice based in Frankfurt. He specialises in international arbitration and arbitration-related litigation.
Alexander's main focus is on complex, cross-border, technical disputes, especially in the aerospace and defence sectors. He also advises and represents clients in various sectors in post M&A and supply-chain disputes.
Alexander has conducted commercial arbitrations under the UNCITRAL, ICC, LCIA, DIS, and Swiss Rules, as well as investment arbitration proceedings at ICSID. He also has experience representing clients in the new German Commercial Courts and Chambers, and significant experience of arbitration-related litigation proceedings (injunctions, enforcement, challenges to awards) in numerous jurisdictions.
Alexander is fluent in both English and German and speaks some French.
- Representing a European industrial group in several related ICC arbitrations against its suppliers. The dispute focussed on complex technical issues of material science and failure analysis.
- Advising a major aerospace and defence group on multiple disputes with suppliers and cooperation partners in large multi-national projects.
- Advising a global industrial company regarding a potential dispute arising out of the renegotiation of long-term contracts central to its business.
- Representing a European chemicals company in a "bet the company" ICC arbitration against its supplier of critical raw materials.
- Representing providers of gas storage caverns in several DIS arbitration proceedings arising out of disputes over the construction and use of the caverns.
- Representing an investment bank in an LCIA arbitration arising out of an M&A transaction.
- Representing a Private Capital investor in a Poast M&A DIS arbitration.
- Advising a major international telecoms technology company in relation to various contractual disputes in multiple jurisdictions.
- Acting for a Swedish medical device manufacturer in an LCIA arbitration against a German company arising out of a dispute over the ownership of intellectual property.
- Representing a U.S. energy company in a Swiss Rules arbitration against a Turkish company regarding a joint venture for the construction of gas-fired power plants in Russia.
- Representing the State General Reserve Fund of the Sultanate of Oman in ICSID arbitration proceedings against the Republic of Bulgaria arising out of the collapse of one of Bulgaria’s largest banks.
