Ewa is a senior associate in our International Arbitration Group, based in our Tokyo office.

Ewa is a seasoned international arbitration lawyer with expertise honed at top global firms. She has worked in six jurisdictions, spanning England, continental Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Ewa has particular experience with disputes in energy, real estate finance, technology, telecommunication, construction, and pharmaceutical sectors. She has represented governments, government-owned entities and leading multinational companies in institutional arbitration proceedings (ICC, DIAC, SIAC, LCIA, CIArb, ICSID, and UNCITRAL Rules), seated in common law and civil law jurisdictions in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

In addition to her extensive experience in handling international disputes, Ewa has also advised governments on drafting arbitration legislation, worked with international organizations on drafting international treaties, conducted mediations, and advised a Nobel Peace Prize nominee on mandates relating to peace negotiations and a wide variety of humanitarian work.

A sought-after speaker and author, Ewa lectures at Keio University in Tokyo, and has sat on national and regional arbitral committees.

Ewa is qualified in England & Wales and is registered as Gaikokuho-Jimu- Bengoshi (Gaiben) in Tokyo.

  • Representing one of the world’s largest alternative asset management companies in a SIAC arbitration seated in Mumbai concerning a dispute regarding a real estate investment joint venture.
  • Representing a major multinational asset management company in a SIAC arbitration concerning the termination of what would have been Korea’s largest-ever real estate transaction.
  • Representing Eurus Energy in an Energy Charter Treaty arbitration under the ICSID Rules against Spain, relating to changes to Spain's regulatory regime on tariffs in the renewable energy sector, in which Eurus Energy was awarded €106.2m in damages, the largest publicly known ISDS award for a Japanese investor.
  • Representing a Japanese energy investor in stay of enforcement and annulment proceedings brought by a European State relating to an ICSID award.
  • Representing a major Asian trading house in its successful claims against an Asian State relating to a $300m tax demand imposed on the client’s investment in the mining sector. The case was settled with the tax demand against our client being withdrawn.
  • Representing a professional services partner in a SIAC emergency arbitration and the ensuing arbitral proceedings involving the enforceability of restrictive covenants in a partnership agreement.
  • Representing an oil and gas super major in a series of Singapore litigation proceedings relating to historic trading arrangements.
  • Representing a leading global technology corporation in a successful defence of all payment claims brought against my client in a DIAC arbitration.*
  • Representing a government-owned entity in a successful defence of all claims brought against my client in a DIFC-LCIA arbitration relating to the construction of a gas pipeline in the UAE.*
