Sam is an associate in our Dispute Resolution practice, based in Amsterdam. He joined Freshfields in 2021 and is a key member of our IP/IT and technology disputes teams.
Sam specializes in data and technology-related litigation (both civil and regulatory) as well as high-stakes advisory matters. He has deep expertise in the EU Digital Strategy framework, regularly guiding international clients through complex regimes including the GDPR, NIS2, the Data Act, the Digital Services Act (DSA), and the AI Act. His experience covers crisis management and subsequent liability, including navigating investigations by European and Dutch regulators, handling regulatory fine and injunction proceedings, as well as civil litigation involving both individual claimants and class actions.
Additionally, Sam represents clients in complex intellectual property disputes involving emerging technologies. His contentious IP practice includes high-profile trademark, patent, and copyright disputes, with a particular focus on the legal challenges posed by artificial intelligence. Sam also acts as a trusted specialist advisor on the IP, data, and technology aspects of high-value, complex corporate transactions and product launches.
Sam regularly collaborates in cross-border teams, advising clients across a range of key sectors, with a particular emphasis on tech, media, fintech, automotive, life sciences, and sports. He has a strong personal interest in AI, evolving technologies, and the regulatory and global dynamics shaping the technology landscape.
