About
Matthew is an associate in Freshfields’ dispute resolution group based in Washington, DC focusing his practice on AI, cybersecurity, and data protection.
Prior to joining Freshfields, Matthew clerked for Vice President Thomas von Danwitz at the Court of Justice of the European Union in Luxembourg. While in law school, Matthew served as an Extern in the Legal Vice Presidency of the World Bank where he worked on a variety of legal issues involving different aspects of the evolving global digital economy, including data protection, digital identification and authentication, intellectual property, and combating cybercrime and “disruptive” technologies, including the use of artificial intelligence. Before embarking on his legal career, Matthew was a Fulbright Student in Austria and worked in art museums across the United States and Europe.
Matthew received his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center where he was the Managing Editor for the Georgetown Journal of International Law. At Georgetown, he was a Global Law Scholar and served as a Fellow to the program. Matthew earned his B.A. in Art & Visual Culture and European Studies from Bates College.
