Stephan Hillenbrand is an experienced commercial litigator who advises leading national and international companies and financial institutions on litigation, arbitration, and complex mass claims and class actions. As Co-Lead of Freshfields’ Mass Claims Unit (MCU), he helps clients navigate large-scale litigation portfolios and mass proceedings, combining strategic dispute resolution with innovative and technology-enabled delivery models.
Alongside strategic dispute resolution advice, he has particular expertise in designing and implementing technology-enabled defence strategies for large-scale disputes. He has led numerous legal tech initiatives and cross-functional teams and is experienced in integrating AI-enabled tools into dispute workflows, enhancing case assessment, document analysis and coordination. By combining deep disputes expertise with hands-on technology leadership, Stephan develops pragmatic and scalable solutions at the intersection of law, technology and business.
