About
Darrin is an Associate within our Dispute Resolution team, based in Dubai. He qualified as a solicitor of England & Wales in March 2024 and brings a broad practice spanning international arbitration, construction disputes, and corporate investigations.
Darrin's arbitration practice covers both commercial and construction disputes across various arbitral institutions, with experience drafting pleadings, factual submissions, and witness statements, as well as preparing witnesses for cross-examination. His construction work includes acting in complex EPC contract disputes and representing clients in claims arising from major infrastructure projects and on delay. Alongside this, Darrin has developed a distinct investigations practice, acting for multinational corporations in cross-border internal investigations — including matters engaging U.S. federal litigation — and conducting witness interviews and preparing formal investigative findings.
Darrin regularly acts on behalf of Amani Khalifa, Partner and Head of our KSA Disputes Practice, in her capacity as Arbitrator for the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal — an independent tribunal recognised by FIBA — and as Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer for the International Tennis Integrity Agency, analysing party submissions and drafting awards and decisions.
Prior to joining Freshfields, Darrin served as a Detective Constable in the English Police, leading investigations into numerous high-profile criminal trials in the UK — experience that underpins his rigorous approach to evidence analysis and fact-finding in complex disputes.
Darrin's experience includes:
- Representing a German energy provider in an ICC arbitration concerning the construction and delay of an LNG terminal.
- Acting for a Spanish contractor in multiple EPC contract disputes.
- Representing a leading Japanese multinational automobile manufacturer in an LCIA arbitration relating to a dispute with regional distributors.
- Representing an international private equity firm in an ICC arbitration concerning breach of warranties.
- Representing a South American crude petroleum explorer in the defence of a multimillion-pound English courts claim relating to an oil spill.
- Advising a multinational private security company in the defence of a GBP 100m+ English courts shareholder claim.
- Advising a specialist global pharmaceutical company in a multimillion-pound English courts shareholder claim.
- Acting for a South African multinational telecommunications company in the defence of parallel lawsuits filed under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act.
- Advising a luxury supercar manufacturer in a dispute with a contract vehicle manufacturer arising from the termination of a vehicle production contract.
