Sue Ng is an associate in our Singapore office and a member of the firm's dispute resolution practice group.
Sue is admitted to practice in three common law jurisdictions: as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore, a Solicitor-Advocate in England and Wales, and an Attorney in the State of New York. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and is also certified as a HKIAC Tribunal Secretary.
Sue's practice focuses on international dispute resolution and public international law. She advises and represents clients across a range of industries and jurisdictions in various dispute resolution mechanisms, including commercial and investor-state arbitrations. Sue has experience in both ad-hoc and institutional arbitrations, including proceedings conducted under the DIS, ICC, ICSID, LCIA, SIAC, and UNCITRAL Rules.
Sue currently serves as Rapporteur for the Commercial Arbitration workstream of the IBA Task Force on the Nationality of Arbitrators and as Assistant Editor to the Managing Editor of the Kluwer Arbitration Blog. She previously acted as Group Advisor to Ms Niuscha Bassiri under the Young ICCA Mentorship Programme (2023-2024).
Prior to joining Freshfields, Sue worked at law firms in the Netherlands and London, as well as at the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Hong Kong, where she assisted with the case management of arbitration proceedings and the scrutiny of arbitral awards. - Representing an Indian health care company in an ad-hoc arbitration (Delaware law, Delaware seat) concerning post-acquisition milestone payments under the SPA.
- Representing a financial sponsor in a SIAC arbitration (Indian law, Mumbai seat) concerning the development of a major real estate project and related allegations of oppression and mismanagement.
- Representing a European chemical company in several disputes arising out the suspension and termination of high-volume supply contracts due to the imposition of EU, Swiss and UK sanctions.
- Advising a contractor on construction claims valued over $1bn on a complex construction project.
- Advising Asian energy companies on the impact of tariffs and economic disruptions on their long-term LNG SPAs.
Past matters include:
- Represented a global pharmaceutical company in a DIS arbitration (German law, German seat) in relation to post-acquisition milestone payments under the SPA.
- Represented a multinational oil and gas company in an ICC arbitration (New York law, New York seat) concerning price adjustment under a long-term LNG SPA.
- Represented a Dutch employer in a potential NAI arbitration (Dutch law, Dutch seat) concerning prolonged delays in construction including over the COVID-19 period.
