Ali is a partner based in the Dispute Resolution team of our London office. Ali has significant experience of complex, large-scale contentious mandates. She has a wide-ranging practice based on managing both commercial litigation and global internal and criminal investigations.
Ali specialises in complex contractual disputes, including in particular disputes arising in a pre- and post-M&A deal context. Her experience includes advising on both domestic litigation and multinational disputes involving multiple jurisdictions.
Ali also has particular experience in investigations involving bribery and corruption issues and has significant experience of contentious mandates arising from alleged accounting fraud and audit mandates. Ali advises on the related area of compliance risk management, including advising on compliance with business and human rights standards, modern slavery compliance and terrorist financing regimes.
Ali’s advice is commercially focussed and combines expert technical legal know-how with a highly pragmatic touch.
Ali’s experience includes advising on domestic litigation and multi-national disputes, including:
- G4S on a dispute brought by dozens of former institutional shareholders relating to public statements made to the market allegedly in breach of disclosure rules under s.90A of FSMA;
- US fintech, WEX Inc, in the successful conclusion of Travelport & Ors v WEX Inc in the English High Court. This was a landmark dispute arising from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, culminating in an expedited trial of preliminary issues in September 2020;
- Two major German banks, in English High Court proceedings, successfully obtaining anti-suit relief in connection with litigation brought in Russia;
- US company Entertainment Partners, LLC, in an English High Court claim under s.994 of the Companies Act; and
- Advising on a shareholder dispute for a major US private equity business, governed by LCIA arbitration.
Ali’s experience also includes advising on investigations and contentious compliance include advising on internal investigations and those involving various UK and overseas authorities, including with the Serious Fraud Office and Metropolitan Police:
- A listed company on the successful negotiated resolution of a Deferred Prosecution Agreement with the UK’s Serious Fraud Office;
- A professional services firm in connection with allegations of bribery and payment of kick-backs within its Italian branch;
- A professional services firm in relation to allegations of misstatement of accounts, including preparing partners from the firm in respect of witness evidence to the
UK’s Financial Reporting Council and Serious Fraud Office; and - Multiple financial sponsors in relation to anti-bribery and corruption issues arising in pre-sale in contested and non-contested sales processes.
