“The supportive culture at Freshfields is something I greatly appreciate.”
Paris Wu joined the firm in 2023 as a trainee and is going to qualify as an associate in the Global Transactions – Corporate department in Hong Kong. She studied law at the University of Hong Kong and will finish her training contract in 2025.

Paris' story
I’m a second-year trainee from Hong Kong, currently on secondment in the London office.
One of the reasons I chose Freshfields was the guaranteed international secondments to London and Mainland China, which offer invaluable exposure. The rotational structure of the training contract has allowed me to explore a wide range of practice areas, from finance and regulatory to disputes and corporate.
The vacation scheme application process was refreshingly straightforward, with just one interview. During the scheme, I felt welcomed from day one and had the chance to take part in meaningful training and activities.
My traineeship so far has been both challenging and rewarding.
The work is fast-paced and complex, but the supportive culture at Freshfields has made a real difference. I’ve learned not just legal skills, but also how to communicate effectively, delegate thoughtfully, and collaborate with colleagues across the firm.
Outside of work, I love solo travel — it’s both a challenge and a joy. I’ve explored Australia, Taiwan, Japan, and China, and I’m excited to see more of Europe while I’m in London.
