Freshfields strengthens technology, innovation and AI leadership with the appointment of Ram Komarraju as Chief Information Officer

Global law firm Freshfields today announces the appointment of Ram Komarraju as Chief Information Officer, accelerating the firm's commitment to technology, innovation and AI as strategic drivers of exceptional client service, operational excellence and long-term growth.

Komarraju joins Freshfields from CLS, a global financial market infrastructure group that operates one of the world's largest foreign exchange settlement services, processing approximately $8tn in payment instructions every day. Owned by more than 70 major financial institutions and overseen by 23 central banks, including the US Federal Reserve, CLS plays a critical role in the global financial system. Most recently, as Managing Director of Technology, Komarraju led teams spanning technology strategy, architecture, engineering, data and analytics, helping shape capabilities across this highly complex and regulated environment.

Throughout his career, Komarraju has led technology modernization, data and analytics programs, enterprise AI adoption and digital product development at scale. At CLS, he established enterprise AI strategy and governance frameworks, led engagement with technology innovators including Anthropic, and built strategic partnerships across financial institutions, fintechs and technology providers to accelerate innovation and business transformation.

As Chief Information Officer, Komarraju will help shape Freshfields' long-term technology, innovation and AI strategy, leading the continued evolution of the firm's global technology platforms and capabilities. Working closely with leadership teams across the business, he will drive initiatives that enhance client service, support colleagues and position the firm to capitalize on emerging technologies and opportunities for growth and transformation.
