Freshfields CFIUS Team Members Named to Foreign Investment Watch’s 2026 Top Advisors List
Partner Aimen Mir and Senior National Security Advisor Brian Reissaus have been named to the 2026 “Top advisors on national security and foreign investment” list by Foreign Investment Watch. The list recognizes top advisors who provide advice and counsel concerning foreign investment and national security in the U.S. and abroad. This is the second year for Brian (after leaving the government at the end of 2023) and the sixth year for Aimen to be listed.
Aimen and Brian joined Freshfields after each serving as the top CFIUS career official. Between them, they oversaw the review and disposition of almost all CFIUS transactions for fifteen of the most formative years of the modern CFIUS. Aimen served as Staff Chair and then Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Investment Security from 2009 to 2018, and Brian served as the Staff Chair, Deputy Assistant Secretary, and acting Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Investment Security from 2018 to 2023, after also serving in the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency, which oversees foreign investment in companies with classified contracts.
