Freshfields was awarded the Richard W. Odgers Pro Bono Partner Award by Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, for Freshfields’ work over the past two years researching and drafting amicus briefs defending state and local bans on the use and sale of assault weapons and large-capacity magazines. Since 2022, Freshfields has filed briefs in more than a dozen federal district and appellate courts across the country, including the US Supreme Court. The award, named in honor of Giffords’ founding board member Dick Odgers, recognizes the “Pro Bono Firm of the Year,” and was presented at the Giffords Law Center annual event, which featured former representative Gabby Giffords, on June 20, 2024.
Emma Brown, GIFFORDS Executive Director stated: “We are deeply grateful to the Freshfields attorneys. The team has developed an expertise defending regulations that ban assault weapons and large capacity magazines, and is always enthusiastic about taking on additional projects, even when the deadlines involve a time crunch. Freshfields has been an exemplary law firm partner on many levels. We very much look forward to continuing this valued partnership for years to come.”
