Freshfields Represents Lead Lender in the Financing of Ammonia Fertilizer Plant in Latin America
Freshfields represented KfW IPEX-Bank as lead arranger and lender for the limited recourse syndicated financing of an ammonia fertilizer plant in Topolobampo, Mexico, expected to be the largest in Latin America. The plant is intended to allow Mexico to reduce its high dependence on ammonia and fertilizer imports and will use natural gas transported from Texas through a series of pipelines, including newly constructed gas pipelines. The project will also include a comprehensive package to boost environmental and social aspects of the area.
The Freshfields team was led by New York finance partner Melissa Raciti-Knapp and supported by finance partner Kyle Lakin and finance associates Borja Coz, Luis Salomon, Nora McDonnell, and Marvin Galloway. German law support was provided by finance partner Michael Josenhans (Frankfurt), principal associate Marlin Juergens (Frankfurt), and associate Hanna Rieß (Berlin). Tax advice was provided by partner Claude Stansbury and associate Dennis Caracristi. Sanctions advice was provided by Stephanie Brown-Cripps.
