Global law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (‘Freshfields’) is advising pro bono the Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 Organisationskomitee gGmbH on the World Games and the National Games in advance, both taking place in Berlin.
Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organisation for people with intellectual disabilities and aims to create an inclusive society where everyone is accepted and welcomed, regardless of their particular talent. Sport helps people with intellectual disabilities to gain more recognition, self-confidence and ultimately more participation in society.
"We are proud to make our contribution," says Patrick Cichy, lead partner at Freshfields in Hamburg. "We want to help ensure that people with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, make and maintain friendships and discover talents and abilities in the process."
Freshfields advises on a wide range of contractual matters (e.g. negotiating and drafting commercial agreements with German and multinational companies) and in the field of intellectual property (e.g. on trademark and media licensing). The team includes partners Patrick Cichy, Philipp Dohnke and Theresa Ehlen as well as associates Maximilian Kind, Simon Schulte, Benjamin Jung, Elisabeth Wulf and Florian Klein.
