“What is a Tech Dispute Anyway?”– GAR Live: Technology Disputes 2024

The past 18 months has seen GAR reporting on more tech-related disputes than any of us can remember. And that was happening before the rise of AI. But what do we mean – when we put the label “tech” or “tech-related” on a dispute and how does that label influence whether arbitration will ultimately play role? This session will bring together leading names to discuss the history of tech industries and international arbitration, and what the intersection of the two should look like in the future. International arbitration is the de facto justice system for many other cross border industries. Is there any reason why the technology field should be any different?

Panelists are expected to discuss:

  • Do tech arbitrations necessarily need tech arbitrators?
  • Are we imagining it, or are tech giants sceptical of international arbitration? Why?
  • Why might potential users be hesitant about going to arbitration? What can practitioners and other stakeholders do to convince them?

Other speakers on this panel moderated by Paul Cohen (Barrister, 4-5 Gray’s Inn Square) include Hugh Carlson (Chief Executive Officer, Three Crowns), and Dana Welch (Independent Arbitrator).
