Convention on Animal Protection: A Global Treaty for Animal Welfare, Public Health, and the Environment
Nigel Blackaby QC, global co-head of Freshfields’ international arbitration practice and co-head of the firm’s Latin America practice, will be speaking at a webinar, organized by the Law, Ethics & Animals Program (LEAP) at Yale Law School, titled “Convention on Animal Protection: A Global Treaty for Animal Welfare, Public Health, and the Environment” on April 14, 2022 from 12:15-1:15 pm ET.
Other panelists will include David Favre, professor of law at Michigan State University College, Rajesh K. Reddy, Global Animal Law and Animal Law Advanced Degree Program Director at Lewis & Clark Law School, and Joan Schaffner, professor of law at George Washington Law School.
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, several members of our firm across offices worldwide, along with academics specialized in animal law, have been working on a treaty initiative to promote and regulate animal protection and prevent a future pandemic (the draft convention is available here). This project has become a global pro bono matter for the firm, with liaison Freshfields lawyers across all regions.
