Countdown to the Spanish Presidency of the Council

On 1 July 2023, at a critical point in the EU’s five year political cycle and in the midst of significant geopolitical and economic headwinds, Spain will take over the rotating Presidency of the Council. Spain will follow Sweden in leading the 27 EU Member States that, together with the European Parliament, legislate on matters proposed by the European Commission which increasingly affect European businesses and citizens. This paper aims to provide an insight into the likely priorities of the Spanish Presidency and, in particular, the key trends and developments that will impact businesses in a number of areas that matter to clients.
