Joseph is a Senior Associate based in our Washington, DC and London, UK offices.
Joseph is trained in common and civil law and specializes in international law. His practice focuses on disputes and transactions in Europe and Latin America and he has acted in arbitrations in English and Spanish. He has advised clients in arbitration proceedings under ICC, LCIA and ICSID rules concerning disputes across a variety of sectors including oil and gas, electricity, infrastructure, mining and sports.
Joseph is a graduate of the McGill University Faculty of Law, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the McGill Law Journal.
Joseph speaks English, Spanish and French.
Investment treaty arbitration:
- Representing Akfel Commodities in an ICSID arbitration against Turkey relating to its investment in the Turkish natural gas and energy sector.
- Representing The AES Corporation in an ICSID arbitration against Argentina arising from measures affecting price-setting mechanisms in the Argentine electricity generation market.
- Representing Smurfit Holdings in an ICSID arbitration against Venezuela arising from the expropriation of its investments.
- Representing Glencore in three ICSID arbitrations against Colombia.
- Representing South32 in an ICSID arbitration against Colombia.
Commercial arbitration:
- Representing a leading football club in arbitration proceedings.
- Representing an oil and gas company with respect to a complex tax claim.
- Representing a healthcare company in a post-M&A claim.
