About
Sophie Rolph is a Pro Bono Lawyer at Freshfields in London. She advises international NGOs and major charities, and manages strategic relationships across the firm’s global pro bono portfolio. Sophie leads one of Freshfields’ key global justice initiatives, coordinating multi‑jurisdictional research to strengthen fair‑trial standards and procedural rights globally. She also has a leading role in managing the firm’s corporate client pro bono collaborations and public legal education programmes, and is developing Freshfields’ growing NGO governance practice, advising on international NGO formation, structuring, reporting and oversight. Alongside her strategic practice, Sophie maintains an active caseload supporting vulnerable and marginalised individuals. She represents survivors of trafficking and exploitation and acts in disability and welfare benefits appeals.
Before joining Freshfields, Sophie worked in pro bono, transactional and litigation roles in Australia, including on refugee protection matters and broader access‑to‑justice initiatives. Her earlier experience spans class actions, regulatory investigations and private equity transactions, providing a strong foundation in complex disputes and cross‑border legal work. She is admitted in the Supreme Court of New South Wales and the High Court of Australia and holds an LLB (Hons) and a Bachelor of International Security Studies from the Australian National University.
