Susie is a Senior Associate in our antitrust, competition and trade group.
Susie advises clients across all aspects of competition law, including merger control and foreign investment, antitrust, and market/sector investigations. Susie has particular expertise advising on utility and infrastructure regulation in the context of both transactions and contentious mandates, including price controls, sector-specific economic regulation and regulatory appeals.
Susie’s clients include major infrastructure companies and those that invest in them, operating in sectors such as energy and natural resources, water, telecoms and transport. She forms part of Freshfields’ market-leading team of infrastructure specialists who operate across multiple jurisdictions in Europe, the US and Asia.
Susie is based in the London office, and has spent time on secondment to our Washington, D.C. and Brussels offices.
Recent examples include advising:
- RWE in merger control proceedings relating to its strategic realignment through an asset swap with E.ON SE;
- BASF on the merger between Wintershall Dea AG and Harbour Energy;
- CK Hutchison on the investigation by the European Commission (EC) into its proposed acquisition of Telefonica UK and its subsequent appeal of the EC’s decision to the General Court of the European Union;
- SSE on appeals to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) against the RIIO-T2 price control decision of the Gas and Electricity Markets Authority;
- Yorkshire Water on its redetermination to the CMA of Ofwat’s PR19 price control decision;
- Heathrow Airport on its appeal to the CMA of the Civil Aviation Authority’s price control decision for the H7 price control period and its defence of third party appeals by three airlines.
