Elisabeth is a counsel in our financial institutions group. She advises clients on financial services regulatory mandates covering a wide range of advisory and transactional matters.
Elisabeth advises investment banks, asset managers, exchanges, market infrastructure providers, private wealth advisers, sovereign wealth funds and industry groups. She has extensive experience of UK and EU regulatory reform and implementation, including cross-border impacts.
Her recent work includes advising clients on regulatory developments including the Consumer Duty and ESG/sustainability. She advises on market regulation, market abuse, derivatives regulation and recovery and resolution planning, as well as the establishment and licensing of financial institutions, ongoing conduct of business requirements, custody and client money rules, payment services, prime brokerage and fiduciary duties.
Elisabeth was part of the team advising the Bank of England throughout the global financial crisis, including on its Special Liquidity Scheme (for which the team won the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Award for Legal Innovation in the Credit Crisis and the Downturn), the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Bradford & Bingley and, more recently, on the resolution of Silicon Valley Bank UK.
Elisabeth is a member of the Freshfields Senior Women's Group Committee, which she co-chaired from 2013-2015.

- Advising the Bank of England on the design and implementation of the Covid Corporate Financing Facility (CCFF).
- Advising leading financial institutions on the implications of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, including licensing issues, restructuring and the migration of clients.
- Advising several leading investment banks and other market participants on the implementation of MiFID II/MiFIR, including extra-territorial impacts.
- Advising a leading investment bank and a non-EU sovereign wealth fund on the implementation and impacts of the Market Abuse Regulation.
- Advising several leading investment banks on implementing changes to client assets and custody rules.
- Advising a global investment bank on the implementation of EMIR.
- Advising the Bank of England throughout the banking crisis, including on the Special Liquidity Scheme, the Discount Window Facility and the Asset Purchase Facility.
