Jonas is a Principal Associate in our global regulatory advisory practice. He is a trusted advisor for all EU regulatory matters with a specific focus on product technology, sustainability, and highly regulated industries.
Jonas has been with Freshfields for ten years and has experience in supporting clients in all situations, including regulatory investigations, ensuring regulatory compliance for new products and advising on emerging new EU regulation. His matters often involve multiple jurisdictions and require managing spillover risks for parallel or future litigation, white-collar crime investigations and corporate law obligations, arising as a result of the regulatory issue.
Jonas has particular knowledge of the new and disruptive technologies changing and challenging the passenger car and general transport sector, especially electric vehicles, software and autonomous driving including AI. His expertise in this area covers international UNECE regulations as well as EU and national laws, including dealing with authorities and managing recall risks. Jonas combines technical expertise and strategic advice with a supportive and approachable style, turning regulatory complexity into opportunity.
Clients also trust Jonas for his ability to anticipate trends and to give strategic advice on the EU's ESG legislation, including CO2 trading schemes, CSRD, CSDDD, EUDR, and other key sustainability regulations. With an academic background in EU and German constitutional and administrative law, Jonas's advice often includes fundamental rights and freedoms. He also regularly provides guidance to public-sector companies, bridging corporate and public law.
Jonas has worked in the firm's Tokyo office and has previously gained experience at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Competition in Brussels.
He is fluent in German and English.
