About

Chase is an associate in our antitrust, competition, and trade practice based in Washington, DC. Chase represents clients across a range of antitrust issues, including civil antitrust litigation, cartel investigations, and regulatory compliance counseling.

Chase’s work includes defending and advising clients operating in a wide variety of sectors, including professional and collegiate sports, higher education, artificial intelligence, and industrials.

Chase also maintains an active pro bono practice, including partnering with Volunteer Legal Advocates and serving as a member of their Junior Board.

Before joining Freshfields, Chase was a legal intern at the Federal Trade Commission’s Bureau of Competition, Mergers I Division, assisting with investigations in the medical device and technology sectors. He was also a legal intern at the Securities and Exchange Commission, where he conducted research on the impact of Supreme Court decisions on future investigations.

Chase's experience advising on civil antitrust litigations include:

  • International Tennis Integrity Agency in securing early exit from class action antitrust litigation filed by professional tennis players alleging Section 1 and 2 conspiracy claims.
  • The Massachusetts Institute of Technology in a class action antitrust litigation alleging that 17 universities conspired to set a common financial aid formula that had the effect of reducing the amount of financial aid awarded over a 20-year period.
  • A group of 10 universities, including, Notre Dame, Boston College, Boston University, the University of Denver, in a class action antitrust litigation against the NCAA and the defendant schools alleging they reduced competition for elite young hockey players by setting eligibility rules that prevented athletes from playing Division I hockey after they had played in the Canadian Hockey League.
  • A building materials company in an antitrust litigation filed by former customers alleging a Section 1 price-fixing conspiracy.
