Ashley Brown is an associate at Freshfields’ based in Washington, DC, where she focuses on antitrust, competition, and trade as well as congressional investigations. Ashley brings a rare combination of legal, policy, and communications experience honed on Capitol Hill. With her deep understanding of today’s Washington, she helps clients anticipate and manage legal, political, and reputational risks.
As counsel on the House Judiciary Committee, Ashley worked on a range of high-profile investigations that attracted significant media attention. She co-led a financial surveillance investigation that spanned financial institutions and government agencies, culminating in a high-profile report scrutinizing the surveillance of Americans’ financial data. As counsel on the Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust, she co-led a bicameral antitrust investigation into alleged collusion and anticompetitive practices among Ivy League institutions.
While earning her JD full-time, Ashley simultaneously served as Communications Director to Rep. Jefferson Van Drew. In this role, she developed and executed media strategy, translated complex policy issues into clear, accessible messaging for constituents, and cultivated relationships with the press to elevate the congressman’s profile and agenda.
