Matthias Benning

Matthias is an associate in our white-collar defence and global investigations group, based in Berlin.

He advises and defends clients – both individuals and companies – across all areas of white-collar crime, with a particular focus on conducting internal investigations.

Matthias supports clients through sensitive, high-stakes matters, from responding to regulatory and law enforcement enquiries to defending against criminal allegations. He brings a practical, commercially attuned approach to internal investigations, helping clients identify risk, establish the facts efficiently, and take considered next steps. A further core focus of his practice is assessing compliance management systems, including in the context of complex transactions, and advising clients on how to strengthen and improve them.

Given the cross-border nature of many white-collar and compliance matters, Matthias regularly works alongside colleagues and authorities in multiple jurisdictions. Native in German and fluent in English, he also speaks French and Mandarin, enabling him to engage directly with clients and counterparts across international investigations.
