Diego is a senior associate in our international arbitration group, based in New York.
Diego’s practice focuses on complex international disputes, including investment treaty arbitration and international commercial arbitration. He has significant experience representing clients in high-stakes matters across Latin America and Europe. He has acted in arbitrations under all major institutional rules, including ICSID, the ICSID Additional Facility, ICC, and the LCIA.
Diego has represented and advised investors and companies across a variety of sectors, including energy, mining, infrastructure, financial services, and agribusiness. His commercial arbitration experience includes disputes related to joint ventures and post-M&A matters.
Diego speaks English and Spanish.
Diego’s experience includes advising/representing:
- ExxonMobil Petroleum & Chemical BV in an ICSID arbitration against the Kingdom of the Netherlands relating to the company’s investment in the Groningen gas field.
- Glencore International A.G. and its Colombian subsidiaries in an ICSID arbitration against the Republic of Colombia concerning their investments in the Calenturitas and La Jagua Mines.
- BA Desarrollos, a U.S. real estate investor, in an ICSID arbitration against the Republic of Argentina following the expropriation of its project in Buenos Aires.
- ADP International and VINCI Airports in an ICSID arbitration against the Republic of Chile relating to their investment in the company holding the Santiago airport concession.
- Latin American Regional Aviation Holdings S. de R.L. in an ICSID arbitration against the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, obtaining a favorable award for the client following the expropriation of its investment in Uruguay’s former flag-carrier airline, Pluna.
- BBVA in an ICSID Additional Facility arbitration against Bolivia arising out of government measures nationalizing the pension fund administration services provided by BBVA’s Bolivian subsidiary, securing a US$95 million award plus interest.
- Grupo Agroinsumos Ibero-Americanos in an ICSID arbitration against Venezuela arising from the expropriation of its investment in one of Venezuela’s largest agricultural production and services groups.
- An international company in an LCIA arbitration against a Central American government relating to a concession to operate four airports.
- A multinational energy company in an ICC arbitration against its former joint venture partner.
- An investment fund in an ICC arbitration against a U.S. company arising out of a share purchase agreement.
