About Alon Gordon
Alon advises financial investors and corporate clients on cross-border corporate M&A and joint venture transactions, with a particular focus on the energy and infrastructure sectors.
During his time at Freshfields, Alon has been seconded to Citigroup’s investment banking team.
Alon is conversant in Hebrew and a member of the firm’s Israel group.
Recent work
- Advising EDF and the Sizewell C project’s holding company on the UK government’s £679m investment in, and China General Nuclear Power Corporation’s exit from, the Sizewell C nuclear power project.
- Advising Neptune Energy and its shareholders Carlyle, CVC, CIC and management on:
- the $4.9bn sale of the Neptune Energy group (excluding its business in Germany) to Eni, and the inter-conditional sale of Neptune Energy’s Norway business to Vår Energi;
- Neptune Energy’s CCUS development projects in the Dutch sector of the North Sea and on the Norwegian Continental Shelf;
- the acquisition of VNG Norge from VNG AG; and
- the $3.9bn acquisition of ENGIE’s global upstream oil and gas business ENGIE E&P Petroleum International.
- Advising Siccar Point Energy and its sponsors, Blackstone Energy Partners and Blue Water Energy, on the sale of Siccar Point Energy to Ithaca Energy for $1.1bn and up to a further $360m in contingent consideration.
- Advising OTPP and PSP on the formation of Cubico Sustainable Investments through the establishment of a joint venture with Santander, the acquisition of Santander’s $2bn global portfolio of wind, solar and water operating and development renewables projects and, subsequently, the acquisition of Santander's remaining interest in Cubico alongside Cubico’s acquisition of further renewables projects from Santander.
- Advising APG Asset Management, including on its:
- €605m joint venture with Orange Polska to create the largest independent wholesale fibre operator in Poland;
- €3bn acquisition of European toll road concessionaire Brisa, alongside NPS and Swiss Life Asset Managers; and
- investment in Spanish toll road group Itínere Infraestructuras S.A..
- Advising BP on the formation of ‘Jio-BP’, its India-wide fuels retail service station, aviation fuel and EV charging joint venture with Reliance Industries.
- Advising Occidental Petroleum on the international aspects of its US$57bn acquisition of Anadarko, including on the contingent US$8.8bn sale of Anadarko's African assets to Total.
- Advising SSE on the £500m sale of its retail energy business to Ovo.
- Advising in relation to the sale and purchase of international arbitral awards regarding renewables subsidies and long-term energy contracts.
- Advising Labora group on the launch of its renewable energy business through the acquisition of leading solar PV systems, energy storage systems and EV charging equipment global distributor Segen, and the further structuring and consolidation of its renewable energy division.
- Advising OTPP on its acquisition of a 50% stake in Bristol airport from Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund and on its sale of minority interests in Bristol and Birmingham airports.
- Advising MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company on its $1.9bn sale of a 35 per cent stake in Terminal Investment Limited to Global Infrastructure Partners.
- Advising Hellman & Friedman on its £1.1bn acquisition of global energy consultancy group Wood Mackenzie from Charterhouse Capital Partners and management and its subsequent $2.8bn sale to Verisk Analytics.
- Advising ConocoPhillips, Total and Eni on their respective acquisitions of interests in the Teeside oil terminal from Equinor.
- Advising ZPG on its acquisition of Confused.com and European insurance-focused comparison platforms from Admiral plc.
- Advising Mars on its acquisition of pan-European veterinary business AniCura from Nordic Capital, Fidelio Capital, management and certain minorities.
- Advising DAZN Group and Access Industries on the combination of global sports content company Perform Content sports AI leader STATS LLC (owned by Vista Equity Partners).
- Advising Liberty Global and Discovery Communications on their joint £550m acquisition of All3Media from Permira, founders and management.
- Advising homeless charity Emmaus Greenwich on its merger with The Coombes Trust Fund (pro bono).
