Richard is head of Freshfields IP/commercial practice group in Asia and advises clients in standalone commercial and transactional projects, and contentious intellectual property matters. He has a particular focus on China, but works regionally in Asia.
His experience is wide-ranging, extending from R&D collaborations, licensing and distribution/supply arrangements to advice in the TMT space, including e-commerce, internet, media and e-health matters, and advice on data privacy and cyber security, encryption, advertising, labelling and consumer protection laws and regulations, in addition to his core practice in intellectual property. He is also recognised as a skilled patent and trade mark litigator in Hong Kong and China.
He advises clients in the consumer goods/retail, healthcare, automotive and TMT sectors in particular.
Richard contributes to legal publications and is a frequent author of client briefings and posts to Freshfields Digital. He was also recently invited by the CityUK to produce a discussion paper on intellectual property protection in the Shanghai free-trade zone, and presented the paper at a British Embassy/ China-Britain Business Council and Shanghai IP Administration co-sponsored event in Shanghai chaired by the United Kingdom Minister for IP.
