CEE Finance and Capital Markets Workshops 2019

The Finance Workshop, led by partner Florian Klimscha and head of the Vienna English law finance desk Anouschka Zagorski, focused on “opportunities”. Core points of the vivid discussions included latest developments in real estate and infrastructure finance, distressed finance, FinTech as well as sustainable and green project finance.

Florian Klimscha: “We are pleased that we have succeeded in establishing the Freshfields CEE Workshop as a regional benchmark. With around 70 participants, the diverse program of this year’s workshop impressively underpins our competence in the CEE region, with a close proximity to the market, the best local lawyers and profound knowledge of the particularities of the region as key ingredients to a successful finance practice.”

Anouschka Zagorski: “The presentations and panel discussions as well as interactive roundtables have shown once again how valuable our CEE Finance Workshop is in maintaining a dialogue between market participants. We also see it as our task, together with our clients, constructively to tap new opportunities and identify specific needs for financing in the CEE region.”

The Capital Markets Workshop, led by partner Stephan Pachinger, touched upon various markets developments – including legal tech applications in the context of capital markets transactions – in CEE and included updates on the Prospectus Regulation. This year’s discussions also highlighted “opportunities” in securitisations, covered bonds and crypto-assets.

“The field of capital market transactions is subject to ever constant change and new developments, which makes experience exchange indispensable,” commented Stephan. “In that regard, our CEE Capital Markets Workshop offers an ideal platform. We examine the interplay of economical, technological, as well as legal implications in a cross-border context and demonstrate the breadth and internationality of our capital market practice.”

This year’s workshops took place on 3 and 4 October 2019 in the Vienna office. The annual event showcases our position as a key player in CEE, as well as providing networking opportunity for clients and StrongerTogether firms active in the region.
