Freshfields advises Archer Hotel Capital B.V. on sale of Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel and Conference Center

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (‘Freshfields’) has advised Archer Hotel Capital B.V. (‘Archer Hotel Capital’) on the sale of the 757-room Paris Marriott Rive Gauche Hotel and Conference Center.

Archer Hotel Capital was established in December 2018 by its shareholders APG Strategic Real Estate Pool NV and Jasmine Hotel Pte Ltd, which is an affiliate of GIC Real Estate Pte Ltd. Its portfolio comprises hotels located in major cities across Western Europe, which were formerly part of the Host Hotels & Resorts European joint venture.

Archer Hotel Capital is competitively positioned in the European hotel investment market, with its specialist team, long-term horizon and high-quality capital sources allowing it to unlock complex investment and value enhancement opportunities.

The cross-border, cross-practice Freshfields team was led by counsel Carole Steimlé in Paris and partner Victoria Hills in London. Partners Martin McElwee and Simon Priddis led on competition law counsel, partner Vincent Daniel-Mayeur led on tax counsel, partner Gwen Senlanne led on employment law counsel, while partner Thijs Flokstra advised on Dutch law aspects of the sale.

Freshfields runs one of Europe’s leading hotel and leisure legal practices. The practice advised Swedish hotelier Pandox AB on its acquisitions of the Jurys Inn UK and Ireland hotel portfolio, the Midland Hotel in Manchester and the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow. It also recently advised the French budget hotel group B&B Hotels on the acquisition of the operating business of nine hotels in Germany from Covivio.

Victoria Hills commented:

“We are delighted to have advised Archer on its first transaction under its new name and to have been able to deploy our integrated global network and deep expertise in the hotel industry to reach a quick and successful closing for the client. The Parisian hotels market is red hot at the moment with investor demand at a high. More than one billion euros have been invested during the first half of 2019 and a growing number of investors are looking at this asset class in France. This sale marks the latest in a number of French transactions in the hotels space that we’ve acted on, which include B&B Hotels’ acquisition of the operating business of nine hotels from Covivio.”
