Freshfields continues strategic growth with Global Restructuring partner appointment

Global law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (‘Freshfields’) today announced that Guilhem Bremond, a bankruptcy and restructuring practitioner, has joined the firm’s global transactions practice and restructuring and insolvency (R&I) team as a partner in Paris.

Bremond joins from Paul Hastings, bringing nearly 30 years’ experience across both in-court and out-of-court restructurings, as well as R&I litigation and advising on distressed investments. He will support the growth of global R&I business at Freshfields, alongside developing and growing the firm’s judicial and debtor capabilities in Paris. Bremond will, in particular, bring full-service debtor side capability in Paris to complement the firm’s market leading creditor side credentials.

Bremond is recognized by Chambers Europe as a leading individual and his hire to the Freshfields Paris restructuring team and the global R&I group demonstrates the firm’s strategic growth ambitions in the R&I practice and reinforces our strength in the market.

Freshfields Paris Transactions Head Guy Benda said: “Guilhem is a welcome addition to our strong existing global R&I practice, and global transaction team. Paris is a significant European financial centre, and our full-service debtor and creditor practice is central to our growth strategy in the region. Guilhem will strengthen our capabilities in this area and further our reputation in the market.”

Freshfields Head of Global Transactions Julian Pritchard said: “We’re delighted that Guilhem is joining our global partnership.  With his strong external reputation in the restructuring and insolvency market, Guilhem will deepen the firm’s bench of talent in an active practice area. The local Paris market has generated large restructuring transactions in recent years, with the firm leading on many of these mandates, and, with the implementation of the EU directive, contentious restructuring and litigation is developing. Guilhem will increase our expertise in this important growth area, particularly across the judicial space and debtor capabilities.”

Bremond joins the firm’s expanding firmwide R&I practice and complements recent hires in London (Lisa Stevens) and Hong Kong (Daniel Anderson) as the practice’s focus over the last 12 months has extended towards private credit and offering a wider range of products in the stressed and distressed space to a wide range of fund and private capital institutions.
