Freshfields advises Ontario Teachers’ on sale of Camelot UK

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (‘Freshfields’) is advising Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board (“Ontario Teachers’”) on its agreement to sell Camelot UK Lotteries Limited, the current operator of the UK National Lottery, to Allwyn AG.

Ontario Teachers’ has been a strong supporter and partner of the National Lottery over the past 12 years.  In that time, under Camelot’s stewardship, the UK National Lottery has raised more than £20 billion for good causes and has supported thousands of organisations across the UK.

Earlier this year, the Gambling Commission awarded Allwyn the licence to operate the UK National Lottery from 1 February 2024.  The sale is anticipated to close in Q1 2023 subject to regulatory approvals, including from the Gambling Commission in the UK.

The Freshfields team is being led by partners Richard Johnson and Patrick Ko, together with partners Kate Gough, Simon Orton, Deirdre Trapp, Peter Hall, Helen Buchanan, David Mendel and Giles Pratt.
