Freshfields wins 'pro-bono initiative of the year' at The Lawyer Awards 2018

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP (‘Freshfields’) has won ‘pro-bono initiative of the year’ at The Lawyer Awards 2018, which is run by The Lawyer magazine. The awards celebrate excellence across the legal profession and honour those who have made significant contributions across private practice, in-house legal departments and the bar.

The firm was presented with the award for its pro-bono work with Shelter's Children’s Legal Service (‘CLS’) – a specialist legal service based within Shelter's legal team that advises and represents children, young people and families from across England on issues concerning housing and homelessness.

Children are a key target group of Freshfields’ responsible business strategy and our objective for this partnership is to harness our legal expertise to have an impact on the wider framework affecting children in housing need nationwide.

Over the course of our 10 year relationship with CLS, Freshfields has worked on 18 pro bono mandates including representing CLS in six third-party interventions in important test cases concerning children’s housing needs. The Freshfields Shelter team has been led by litigation partner, Patrick Swain, throughout the relationship.

The award was presented at a dinner at Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 26 June 2018.
