Additional Information

  • Secured $2.8bn in an ICSID award for Grupo Agroinsumos for Venezuela's expropriation of its investment in the most important group of companies in the country's agribusiness. This is the second largest award to date.
  • Secured $386m in two ICSID awards for Tenaris, a major producer of steel pipes for the oil and gas industry, in two separate ICSID arbitrations against Venezuela arising out of the nationalization of its interests in two hot-briquetted iron producers in Venezuela, and Venezuela’s sole producer of seamless steel pipes for the oil and gas industry.
  • Secured a $254 million award for Glencore in its expropriation claims against Bolivia, the largest arbitral award ever obtained against that state.
  • Secured over $60 million in an ICSID case against Uruguay over the unlawful expropriation of the country's flag carrier airline.
  • Representing Repsol in relation to its dispute with Argentina over the highly controversial nationalization of its investment: Repsol’s 51 percent stake in local oil company YPF. This is one of the highest-profile direct expropriations in a decade, with major front page news coverage throughout the world and recognized as Deal of the Year (Disputes) by Latin Lawyer 2014. The case settled for an amount in excess of $5bn.
