About Enrica Schaefer
Enrica is a principal associate in our Antitrust, Competition and Trade team. Based in Brussels, her practice spans all aspects of EU, German and international competition law.
She has extensive experience of complex cross border merger control, including in-depth reviews by and remedies negotiations with the European Commission and authorities in other jurisdictions. She also manages the growing impact of foreign direct investment and foreign subsidies regulations on deals. Enrica’s behavioural practice covers investigations into anti-competitive agreements and abuse of dominance, as well ensuing litigation. She is also actively advising on emerging digital regulatory regimes including the EU’s Digital Markets Act.
Enrica works across a range of industry sectors, with a particular focus on innovative sectors such as life sciences, technology and industries in transition. During an eight-month secondment to Siemens, Enrica worked alongside the in-house legal team on the structuring of multiple R&D cooperations, and licensing and commercial agreements across various business units.

- Grünenthalpharmaceutical company on several M&A transactions, including on the merger control and foreign investment aspects of its joint venture with Kyowa Kirin International and its acquisition of Bayer’s testosterone product Nebido.
- Life sciences multinationals on proposed M&A transactions, licensing and collaboration agreements and antitrust investigations.
- Siemens AG on the multijurisdictional aspects of its acquisition of SaaS company Supplyframe Inc; and Siemens Energy on the European Commission’s clearance of its acquisition of Senvion.
- Maersk on the proposed sale of its container manufacturer business to China’s CIMC, in a deal that prompted a Phase II investigation by Germany’s Bundeskartellamt and a Second Request in the US.
- Clariant on the European Commission’s antitrust investigation into the ethylene market.
- Evonik on the European Commission’s Phase I conditional clearance of its acquisition of Huber Silica.
