John specialises in transactional and regulatory work in the financial services sector.
John advises banking and insurance clients on complex international public and private mergers and acquisitions. He also guides a wide variety of financial institutions on regulatory matters including conduct of business issues, licensing, market abuse, change of control, prime brokerage, governance and systems and controls.
John is based in our Hong Kong office, and also has experience of advising on regulatory developments both at UK and EU level including Brexit, MiFID 2/MiFIR, MAR and Solvency 2.
John is an active member of Freshfields' Fintech group and regularly contributes thought leadership pieces to Freshfields Digital, covering cryptoassets, blockchain, smart contracts, fintech regulation and insurtech.
During his time at Freshfields, John has worked in-house at multiple financial institutions, where he advised on the planning and implementation of key regulatory developments. He has also been on a transactional secondment to the securities and prime brokerage legal team at a leading global investment bank.
