About Dr. Florian Reiter-Werzin

Florian is a principal associate in our Vienna office and advises clients on Austrian and EU competition law. He has previously also been seconded to our London and Rome offices.

Florian advises clients in national and international merger control proceedings, cartel investigations and on the foreign subsidies regulation. He also has a particular focus on EU State aid law.

His recent experience includes EU and Austrian merger control reviews in a number of sectors, including the automotive industry, IT and pharma. In the area of State aid, he has worked on matters relating to the semiconductor, banking, renewable energy industries and the COVID and gas crisis.

Florian is fluent in German and English.

Recent work

  • Advising Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) on State aid related questions of the issuance of a revolving credit lines for the gas suppliers Uniper SE in the amount of €18 billion EUR, SEFE GmbH (formerly Gazprom Germania) in the amount of €11.8 billion and VNG AG in the amount of € billion in the context of the energy crisis.

  • Advising AMAG Austria Metall AG, the largest Austrian aluminium group, on the acquisition of a 70% stake in Aircraft Philipp Group, a manufacturer of ready-to-install metallic components and assemblies for the aerospace industry, in merger control proceedings before national authorities.

  • Advising Vonovia SE on its acquisition of the Austrian real estate company BUWOG AG in an Austrian merger control proceeding.

  • Advising Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) on EU State aid law related aspects of its acquisition of a 20% stake in the German grid operator 50Hertz on behalf of the German Federal Government.

  • Advising a German bank on restructuring procedures and capital measures under EU State aid rules.

  • Advising Porsche Holding, the leading global car wholesale and retail company and member of Volkswagen group, on merger control proceedings at national authorities and the EU Commission relating to various M&A deals, most recently in Portugal and Germany.

  • Advising Volkswagen AG on its major investments in Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group, China’s largest M&A deal in the electric vehicle sector to date, and in relation to its $2.6bn co-investment with Ford Motor Co. in autonomous vehicle technology company Argo AI.

  • Advising the cold storage warehouse Americold on its $1.74 billion acquisition of Agro Merchants Group from Oaktree Capital in Austrian merger control proceedings.

  • Advising the German Federal Ministry of Finance in EU merger control proceedings on the nationalisation and acquisition of sole control of the German gas supplier Uniper SE.

  • Advising Hewlett Packard Enterprise on its $925 million acquisition of the software company Silver Peak in Austrian merger control proceedings.

  • Advising a multinational semiconductor company on EU State aid law in the context of patent litigation.

  • Advising the construction company Saint-Gobain on its $2.3 billion acquisition of GCP Applied Technologies, a specialty construction chemicals company, in Austrian merger control proceedings.
