About Jonathan Isted

Jonathan is a co-head of our global ESG practice and one of our most experienced litigators, having handled cases in a wide range of different sectors.

He focuses on complex and challenging multijurisdictional matters, and is skilled in handling the cultural and logistical challenges that can arise in such cases. These often require the expertise of local lawyers and experts, and he is adept at pulling together successful teams incorporating different legal systems, language and cultures.

Jonathan has a successful track record in handling high-profile group claims in the environmental, health and safety, human rights, product liability, consumer and retail sectors.

He has handled a large number of mediations on behalf of clients, and is a CEDR–accredited mediator.

Recent work

Advising on several different OECD National Contact Point dispute resolution procedures involving clients in the energy, natural resources and consumer sectors.

Advising an international automotive manufacturer on the defence of group litigation claims in relation to diesel engine emissions.

Advising a mining company on the successful resolution of a dispute concerning alleged human rights issues, including the development of an innovative Operational Grievance Mechanism.

Acting for numerous clients on group litigation claims in the environmental and products space.

Advising clients across the extractive, industrial, power, transport and financial sectors in relation to climate change litigation risks.

Acting for one of the world's largest energy companies in the successful defence of English  High Court litigation proceedings brought by a group of Colombian landowners, claiming for environmental damage to their properties allegedly caused by the construction of an oil pipeline.
