Paula Henin is a member of our international arbitration group and of the Firm's US Pro Bono Committee.
Paula is trained in both civil and common law, and focuses her practice on international commercial and investment treaty arbitration, as well as public international law. She has experience representing corporate and sovereign clients in arbitrations conducted under the auspices of the ICSID, ICC and PCA, as well as under the UNCITRAL rules. She also has experience advising States and private companies on matters of public international law and global litigation strategy.
Prior to joining Freshfields, Paula was an associate in the London and New York offices of another international law firm, and a law clerk to a top-ranked international arbitrator based in The Hague.
She has also worked at the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris and in the in-house legal department of a global media and information company in New York.
Paula is admitted to practice law in New York (attorney-at-law) and England & Wales (solicitor). She speaks English, French and Spanish fluently.

Represented the Republic of Cyprus in its successful defence of ICSID claims arising out of Cyprus's regulatory treatment of the nation's second-largest bank during the eurozone crisis.*
Represented a Turkish construction company in its successful ICC claims against a Central African State and its State agency relating to several large-scale infrastructure construction projects (lead associate).*
Represented renewable energy companies in their successful ICSID claims against the Kingdom of Spain arising out of changes to Spanish law.*
Represented the Republic of South Sudan in its defence of ICSID claims brought by Sudapet Co. Ltd. (the outcome of the arbitration is confidential).*
Advised a global energy company on investments affected by a maritime boundary dispute.*
