About Laura Bellezza

Laura is a Senior Associate, specialising in litigation with a particular focus on consumer and data protection, as well as IT law

Laura regularly advises multinational and domestic data driven and IT clients in investigations and risk assessments to ensure compliance with data and consumer protection regulations.

Laura has gained significant experience through three client secondments, where she guided internal investigations for suspicious IT transactions and conducted gap analyses for app and website policies, including whistleblowing schemes. She also advised the Italian branch of an international client on data and consumer protection during the launch of a new electronic product and the setup of the related website.

Additionally, Laura has strengthened her IT skills by assisting a client in the telecommunications sector in several disputes related to the housing and hosting services provided by their data center.

Prior to joining Freshfields, Laura was an external advisor at another law firm, specialising in data protection and IT law.

Laura speaks Italian, English, Spanish and French.

Recent work

  • Regularly assist companies through the GDPR data breach procedure and third party audits to assess compliance of their internal Privacy Organisation Model under GDPR and technical standards;
  • Supporting an IT client in navigating several litigation cases related to (i) sale and leaseback of IT assets; (ii) performance of data centre housing and hosting agreements;
  • Assisted digital marketing internal unit of a Tobacco multinational client in negotiating contracts for (i) developing an engagement app for adult smokers; (ii) distributing e-vouchers for third parties online platform; (iii) ensuring GDPR compliance for website notices and age gate systems; (iv) implementing call recording of customer care service;
  • Assisted a major Italian distributor of electronic products to: (i) ensuring GDPR compliance of their e-commerce website; (ii) negotiating a software license for a CRM analytical tool; and (iii) drafting a Data Protection Impact Assessment for extending data retention in marketing profiling;
  • Assisted a credit rating agency during a third-party audit by reviewing their internal Privacy Organisation Model and privacy documentation;
  • Assisted a major automotive company in assessing the compliance of their new e-features under safety and data legislation;
  • Assisted an e-health client in evaluating data protection risks for a new tool meant to ensure anonymisation of health data in the context of research projects.
