Ethics Committee

Our clients rely on our excellence when it comes to professional expertise, diligence, loyalty, and integrity. They count on our discretion and independence, as members of the legal profession. For us, ethical conduct is non-negotiable, as an essential and indispensable element that our work demands.

The Ethics Committee advises the German practice of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer on ethical issues in relation to its ongoing client work and on the application and further advancement of our principles and code of conduct. The Committee is independent and chaired by German constitutional law expert and former judge at the Federal Constitutional Court, Professor Dr Dr Udo Di Fabio. All lawyers and staff at our German Freshfields offices can call upon the Committee. The other members of the Ethics Committee, in addition to Professor Di Fabio, are Dr Barbara Keil, Dr Simone Kämpfer and Dr Michael Josenhans, all of them being active partners of the Firm.

Our ethical principles and code of conduct are a written record of our firm commitment to the aspirations and standards for our work that we set for ourselves. They are a reflection not only of applicable professional regulations, but also of the firm's ethical maxims when representing the interests of our clients. They are binding for all lawyers and employees of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer working in Germany and are a fundamental part of the firm's internal training programmes and performance reviews.
