A comprehensive program

Freshfields' 11-week summer associate programs in the US and in London give second-year law school students a taste of what it is like to work at a large commercial law firm.

The programs provide an ideal opportunity for you to sample different types of legal work and build on your knowledge and academic experiences by working as part of a team involved in ongoing transactions.

Because our summer associate class is relatively small, we are able to tailor the experience to ensure it is relevant and rewarding for each participant. All summer associates are assigned two mentors: a junior associate who will help you integrate socially and explain day-to-day tasks like time recording and meeting etiquette, as well as a partner who will ensure you get involved in client meetings and provide you with regular feedback. Special care is taken when assigning mentors - we take time to find personalities and interests that are compatible.

As a summer associate, whether in New York, Washington DC, London or Asia, you may be able to spend time in one of our other offices. Students hoping to do so should be fluent in the local language.
