Bruce McCulloch, Washington Of Counsel
I joined Freshfields as a lateral hire in 2002 when the US antitrust practice came together. From day one, I felt tied into other offices and colleagues across the network.
This unified team culture has been crucial to my personal success as well as that of the antitrust practice as a whole. Here in Washington DC you never feel isolated from the rest of the firm, because we constantly work alongside colleagues in our New York and international offices as one team.
Our technology helps, because you can contact anyone, anywhere, anytime. But to make any team function, you also have to believe that your team mates are the best at what they do. I’m lucky in that respect because our antitrust team has recently been judged one of the best in the world.
For a guy who loves life in Washington DC, I’ve seen a lot of the world. I spent six months on secondment in Brussels with my wife and kids – a great professional and personal experience. I make regular trips to Europe. Not so long ago, after a conference in Lisbon, I watched Germany play in the World Cup with 20 colleagues from our German offices. Now that was a unique Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer experience.
